Prepare
as for Liquid Terracotta. Bleeding is not as big an issue
with Liquid Sandstone as it is with Liquid Terracotta. However
all care should be taken to avoid it as it is very difficult to
correct. Ensure surrounding area is masked to prevent damage.
Dark substrates. To improve
coverage rate over dark substrates undercoat with Megatreat Textured
Primer Coat or Megatreat Primer Basecoat Sealer.
Small Objects and Small Flat Surfaces
First key coat; Apply
a THIN coat with a good quality brush or a small foam pad applicator,
making sure that the coat is even. This coat can be smoothed before
drying with a damp brush. This key coat will be quite transparent.
Do not attempt to fill in with the first coat.
Second coat; Starting
at the top and working downwards smoothing out as you go, this
coat will, in most cases, fill in and fully key to the first coat.
This coat can be smoothed if desired with a damp foam brush or
pad. (before the coat is dry) If a high build profile is required
more skim coats can be applied.
This is done using long sweeping strokes at a 45
degree angle when smoothing out the final coat.
Gained Effect
While the final coat of regular sandstone is still
damp, apply strokes of Desert gold with a small brush in long
parallel sweeps varying the gaps between sweeps. Then blend in
with a damp foam applicator.
Large Flat Areas
Ensure surrounding area is masked to prevent over
spray damage. Apply first coat with a hopper gun or a foam pad
applicator. If using a hopper gun it should be set to operate
between 20-30 psi. It should be used at a distance of approx.
450mm [knee height] from the surface. This coat should be thin
and see through. Allow to dry (normally around 1/2 hour)
Second coat; This coat
will fill in the first coat, if using a spray gun smooth off with
a foam pad applicator to highlight the sandstone effect.
Finishing; Smooth
off any rough edges with sand paper or electric sander. The whole
area can be sanded to give the aged or weathered look. Wash all
tools immediately with fresh water.
-
Liquid Sandstone is very fast
drying in direct sun light so try to avoid applying in the direct
hot sun or hot wind
-
Always apply thin coats.
Never apply thick coats
-
Allow 24 hours to dry before driving
on the surface
-
Do not add water to products.
This will weaken it.
-
Slightly dampen foam applicator
when applying sandstone
-
Do not try and fill cracks and
hollows with sandstone
-
Short bristle brushes apply sandstone
better
-
When using Liquid Sandstone on
bricks. Bag rake joints with sand and cement prior to
application. This will give a more realistic look.
-
Apply only to clean dry surfaces
-
Use an electric sander to smooth
the Liquid Sandstone for areas such as tables and pool surrounds
-
Re-cut joints with an angle grinder
-
Use Sikaflex or similar for expansion
joints. [looks smart]
-
Always use appropriate safety
equipment. [eg hearing and eye protection]
-
Liquid Sandstone becomes a shade
darker after satin or gloss sealer coat is applied
-
Suitable for
all surfaces. For glazed tiles and etched glass apply
penetrol or lightly sand with sandpaper.
